Educational Qualification
The qualification depends on the particular post.
For several Junior Engineer posts, the notification prescribes a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline or an accepted combination of sub-streams from a recognized University/Institute. The exact qualification must be checked against the individual post in Annexure-A.
For example:
| Post Area | Qualification Requirement |
|---|---|
| Civil JE | Relevant 3-year Civil Engineering Diploma / prescribed equivalent |
| Electrical JE | Relevant Electrical/Electronics Engineering Diploma or prescribed combination |
| Mechanical JE | Relevant Mechanical/Production/Automobile and specified related disciplines |

| DMS | 3-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline |
For Depot Material Superintendent, the official notification states that a three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline is required. Higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech are also acceptable in lieu of the three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.
Important Eligibility Warning β οΈ
Candidates waiting for the final result of the prescribed qualification should not apply. The required educational/technical/professional qualification must already be possessed by the closing date, 13 September 2026.

The RRB JE/DMS recruitment process has four stages:

There is no separate interview stage mentioned in the recruitment process.

The notification also provides a provision for relaxation for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved PwBD vacancies.
CBT-II Exam Pattern
CBT-II is more important for candidates because it contains a large technical section related to the selected exam group.

Important Warning β Choose Your RRB Carefully π¨
This is one of the most important points in CEN 04/2026.
Candidates can apply to only one RRB. The selected RRB cannot later be changed. Candidates can give preferences for Railway Zones and posts within that chosen RRB. Submitting applications to more than one RRB can result in rejection of all applications and debarment from the recruitment process.
My suggestion: Before pressing the final submit button, check:
- RRB selected
- Post preference
- Educational qualification
- Medical standard
- Category
- Age
- Railway/Zone preference
- Uploaded photograph/signature
- Mobile number and email
Medical Fitness β Do Not Ignore This
Railway recruitment has specific medical standards such as A-3, B-1 and C-1, depending on the post. Visual standards and other medical requirements can therefore become important at the final stage.
A candidate found medically unsuitable for the opted post may not receive an alternative appointment. This is a point many candidates may overlook while preparing only for the written examination.
How to Apply
- Visit the official RRB website.
- Read CEN 04/2026 completely.
- Create an RRB account if required.
- Use your active personal mobile number and email ID.
- Complete identity authentication where applicable.
- Select only one RRB.
- Select eligible posts and preferences.
- Enter educational and personal details carefully.
- Upload the required live photograph/signature and documents.
- Pay the applicable examination fee.
- Submit the application.
- Save/print the completed application for future reference.
The notification says that mobile number and email ID entered during account creation cannot be changed later.
Application Modification
A modification window is available from 16 September to 25 September 2026 with a βΉ250 non-refundable modification fee per occasion.
However, the Create an Account details and chosen RRB cannot be changed.
Competition Level β Our View
| Factor | Our View |
|---|---|
| Vacancies | π’ Good β 3,993 |
| Government Job | π’ Excellent |
| Pay Level | π’ Good β Level 6 |
| Technical Qualification | π‘ Post-specific |
| Competition | π΄ High |
| CBT Difficulty | π‘ Moderate to High |
| Technical Preparation | π΄ Very Important |
| Medical Requirement | π‘ Must check |
| Overall Opportunity | π’ Strong opportunity |
The vacancy number is attractive, but RRB JE is generally a competitive recruitment. Do not assume that 3,993 vacancies means selection will be easy. Your RRB choice, technical group, category, CBT performance and medical fitness all matter.
Our Verdict
RRB JE/DMS Recruitment 2026 is a strong opportunity for eligible Diploma and engineering candidates who want a career in Indian Railways.
The biggest positives are 3,993 vacancies, Level-6 pay, βΉ35,400 initial pay and a clear CBT-based selection process. However, candidates should not apply casually. The one-RRB rule, post-specific qualification, medical standards and technical CBT-II syllabus deserve special attention.
My advice: If you meet the qualification and age conditions, first verify the exact post parameters in Annexure-A and vacancy details in Annexure-B. Then select your RRB and preferences carefully and start CBT-II technical preparation early.
